WOODLANDS HUNT CLUB MEETING. (By Special Reporter). Notwithstanding the wind and rain there was a fair attendance at the Pahiatua Racecourse to-day at the Woodlands Hunt Club Meeting. Most of the races were run off in rain, but some very close finishes were witnessed. The first on the programme was the Hunters' Handicap Hurdles, for qualified hunters only, distance about a mile and a-half. From almost the start it looked as a sure win for Firestick, who held the lead right into the straight, but here Valima and Haumoi came with a great run, and passed the former horse. After a good finish Valima gained the judge's verdict with Haumoi second, and Fiiestiek third. The Maiden Flat Race, over a distance of five furlongs, was won by Mildura, Shellfish and Black Angel being second ani third, respectively. Ic was a splendid finish, the first two horses racing neck and neck up the straight, the former winning by about half a length. The Woodlands Hunt Club Steeplechase Handicap was another good race. Lord Ullin maintained the lead on both occasions when passing the grandstand, but on the final run home fVll away. Kuranui and Valima then took"up the running, the former eventually winning by several lengths from Aarangi, who beat Lord Ullin for third place. The Members' Race (flat) resulted in a good finish between Shellfish and Atanui, the former winning with Black Ancrel third. A protest was entered against the winner on the ground that he was not ridden under the conditions required and was upheld. Consequently Atanui was declared the winner and Tyrant placed third. The Hack Handicap (flat) was won by Hutiwai, with Hinerangi and Adventure second and third, respectively. Golden Butterfly was left at the post, but came up splendidly at the finish. The Kumero Handicap Steeplechase, of about two miles, fell to Waitoa, Otus and Copimodore following in the order named. A protest was entered against the winner for running off, but was dismissed. it was almost dark when the last race was run, the Hack Handicap (fiat), which was won comfortably by Zoroida, with Golden Butterfly and Hutiwai second and third, respectively.
