DEATH SENTENCE COMMUTED. Received Augus-t 5, 9.13 a.m. SYDNEY, August 5. The death sentence on Green, who murdered Lilian Bridge, on April 14th, has been commuted to one of penal servitude for life. COMPULSORY MILITARY TRAINING. Received August 5, 9.13 a.m. SYDNEY, August 5. The Farmers' Conference decided to support the compulsory training of young men for defence purposes. PIGEONS FOR DEFENCE PURPOSES. Received .August 5, 9.13 a.m. MELBOURNE, August 5. The Federal Mini&ter for Defence intends to include in the Estimates a sum to promrte the breeding of the best types of homing pigeons for defence purposes. PRESSMEN AND PARLIAMENTARIANS. Received August 5, 10.25 a.m. PERTH, August 5. When the Assembly met, the reporting staffs were informed that it was not intended to grant better facilities to pressmen, and the reporters immediately withdrew. The House sat for a few minutes, and passed the Addiess in-Reply, then adjourned. Owing to the refusal of the authorities to provide better gallery accommodation, the reporting staff struck on July 29th, and informed the Speaker that Parliament would not be reported till better provision was made.
