INTERNATIONAL ART CONGRESS.
Received August 5, 9 a.m. LONDON, August 4. The third International Art Congress for the development of ilrawirg and ait teaching, and their application, was opened in the University of London. There are present two thousand delegates from all parts of the world, chiefly teachers of art. The Hon. W. P. Reeves and Mr G. George (director of the Auckland Technical School) represented New Zealand. Lord Carlisls, the president, commented sharply on the absence of any official representative of the British Government, and their indifference with regard to art teaching. He also dwelt on the defects in j the British systtm of art instruction, especially emphasising the great divergence between the teaching and what the market demanded.
