GALE IN NEW SOUTH WALES.
HOUSES UNROOFED. TREMENDOUS SEA RUNNING. MAIL COACH WASHED AWAY. Received August 4, 9.35 a.m. SYDNEY, August 4. The gale and rain continues. The gale unroofed some houses in the suburbs and country, and wrought other damage. A tremendous sea is running all along the coast The coasting rivers are becoming flooded. The Cobargo mail coach was washed away while crossing the Bega River. The driver managed to swim ashore. A THRILLNG ADVENTURE. BLOWN TO SEA IN A BOAT. Received August 5, 12.33 a.m. SYDNEY, August 4. During the gale a French Canadian named Legros had a thrilling adventure. , He was fishing at Newcastle and was blown out to sea. He passed a terrible night. The look-out on the steamer Colac heard his cries before dawn twenty miles east of Newcastle. The steamer hove to till daylight and dis]J covered and rescued Legros.
