The funeral of the late Mr C. H. Nicholls took place at the Clareville Cemetery yesterday afternoon, and was largely attended. The deceased was accorded a military funeral. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. R. Young, of St. Marcs, Carterton. Three volleyj were fired over the grave, and the . "Last Post" was sounded by Bugler M. Pairbrother. A large number of menbera of the Methodist Church and friends met at the Library, Hall, Manga ainoka, on Monday evening, and tendered a fare well social to Mr, Mrs and Mis 3 Baillie, who have been settlers of the district for a very long time, telegraphs our correspondent. Mr and Mrs Baillie were presented with a family Bible, and Miss Baillie with a jjMethodist hymn book. Mr W. Baillie had already been presented with a token of esteem by the stall of the*"Pahiatua Herald."
