The weather is very wet. Over twelve inches of rain has fallen since Monday last.
A VIOLENT GALE
Received August 4, 12.47 a.m. , , SYDNEY, Augusts. A violent gale is raging, and drenching rain is falling. Telegraphic communication is disorganised, and Sydney is practically isolated.
For the week ending to-day 13| inches of rain has fallen in Sydney. The whole State has experienced splendid rains. x -
THE RECENT TRAMWAY STRIKE.

SYDNEY, August 3. The Chief Railway Commissioner has refused to sanction the re-em-ployment of the Tramway Union Executive, and also twenty-five men who were prominent in inciting the recent strike. ' ' .
SURPLUS REVENUE ACT. Received August 3, 9.55 a.m. SYDNEY, August 3. The State Government has issued a writ against the Federal Government to test the constitution of the Surplus Revenue Act. A similar writ has been issued by Westfirn Australia.
THE HOBART SENSATION. Received August 3, 9.55. a.m. HOBART, August 3. Bock, who was murderously assaulted by a young man named Hudson, was clubbed with a piece of wood, not with a gun as first reported. He has succumbed to his injuries. As the result of a quarrel, Hudson, who is 22 years of age, shot a girl named Bradley in the back, and cluobed Bock, her brother-in-law, fracturing the latter's skull and jaw. The girl still lives, although she i 3 now in a low condition.
