ST. PATRICK'S DAY SPORTS ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING OF ' . MEMBERS., The annual meeting of members of the St.; Patrick's Day Sports Association was held in the Exchange Buildingß on Saturday evening, there being about twenty members present. The President (Mr H. J. O'Leary) occupied the chair. The Chairman, in moving the adpption of the annual report and balance-sheet, said that the members were to be ".ongratulated on the present position of the Association, after taking into consideration the adverse crircumstances in connection with the Association for the past two years. Although the spores gathering had resulted in a financial loss last year, the entries were equal to previous gatherings. He would like to see'all Irishmen "put their shoulders to the wheel," and then the As» sociation would be sure to prosper. He also stated that there were several members who were prepared to make donations to the Association if they were required, and he (the speaker) would stick to the Association so long as it existed. He said the best thanks of the Association , were due to Mr C. A. Tabuteau, the secretary, for his donation, which was equivalent to £8: and also to the Masterton Pipe Band for the services they had rendered free of charge, Mr A. Haughey, who seconded the motion, said that the Association had had a run t of bad luck in /the past, but he hoped, with the members all striving to advance the interests of the Association that the future would >be more prosperous. He would like to see members do all that was'in their power to put the , Association on a better footing. He considered tho Association was in a good position financially. / Mr F. Haughey also briefly referred to the affairs of the Association in a similar strain to the pre»< vibus speaker. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, the Very Rev. Dean McEenna; president, Mr A. Haughey; vice-presidents, Messrs VV. C. Smith, and J. Creelman; treasurer, Mr F. Haughey ( Mr C. A. Tabuteau; executive committee, Messrs H. J. O'Leary, W. L. Falconer, J. Cullen, J. Lyall, J. Kealy, E. G. Williams, F. OToole, J. Pickett, T. W. Pickett, M. Kerins, J. Yarr, J. O'Dowd, Jas. O'Connor, E> Johns, and J. Hanley; auditors, Messrs V. Darroch and E. H. Waddington. v • ! It was decided that cheques should be signed by the president, treasurer and secretary. i

Mr F. Haughey stated that a \ number of ladies had expressed their desire to hold another social and dance 'in about six weeks' time in \ order to raise funds in aid of the Association. The secretary was instructed to call a meeting of the executive committee to make arrangements in connection with the same. c Mr J. Crffelman suggested that in future all sports gatherings held under the auspices of the Association should beheld on St. Patrick's Day, except when that clay fell on a Sunday. The members unanimously de- l cided to.adopc the suggestion. The secretary was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the efficient manner in which he had cairiedout his duties as secretary during the past year. Votes of thanks were also accorded to Messrs H. Sinclair, R. Pook, W. Gillespie, J. C. Ewington, J. Halligan E. E. Chamberlain and the Wellington and Wairaiapa Motor Company for their donations to the Association; to the Masteiton Borough Council for the re fun a of the amount charged for the u«3 of the Park and to Mr H. J. O'Leary for his past services as president to the Asociation. It was decided to hold the next sports gathering in the Masterton Park on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th 1909. The secretary was instructed to pencil the Town and Drill Halls for that date. | Messrs B. Chapman and T. Holland were elected members of the Association.
