The Lord Mayor of Sydney has received a letter from a London firm dealing in- antique things, offering for sale the figure-head of Captain Cook's vessel, the Resolution (says the "Sydney Morning Herald ") The relic was purchased at a sal" on behalf of the descendants of Captain Clerke, who brought the vessel home after Captain Cook's death. The facts in connection with the relic are that Captain Cook landed at Botany Bav on April 28th, 1770, in the Endeavour. In July, 1772, he i ailed in the Resolution, accompanied by the Adventure, on a' voyage which was unsuccessful, and returned in July, 1774, to England. He sailed again i in the Resolution in July, 1776, to discover a passage to the north of America,'afterwards wintering in the Sandwich Islands, where he was killed by the natives at Hawaii (then I spelt Ohyee). Captain Clerke succeeded to the chief command on the death of Cook; The Lord Mayor suggests that the Yorkshire Society I might take the matter up.
