MAINTENANCE OF A STRONG NAVY.

AN APPEAL FOR REUUCTTION IN ARMAMENTS.

A non-political Parliamentary committee is being formed to support the policy of the maintenance of a strong navy.

On the other hand, the Right Hon. H. H. Asquith, Prime Minister, received an appeal, signed by 144 of his supporters, for a reduction in armaments. It emphasised the reed for a survey of the situation and of the figure in the Budget Statement for 1906-07.

Sir John Brunner (LiberalM.P. for Norwich Division of Cheshire), and Mr J. A. Mac Donald (Liberal member for Falkirk Burghs) were authors of the appeal.
