"THE PRINCE CHAP."

An original method of discovering how a new play would suit the tastes of theatre goers in New Zealand was resorted by the management of the "Prince Chap" on the occasion of the initial performance in Christchurch. A handsome prize was offered for the best criticism under twenty words to be written upon slips inserted in the programmes. The prize was awarded to Mr J. E. Steven?, the director of the School for Deaf Mutes at Sumner, who wrote, "A delightfully original play, deeply pathetic, yet sparkingly brilliant, bubbling over with merriment, refreshingly unconventional, but natural throughout." "The Prince Chap" will be the first play in Mr Roberts' season in this town, the second performance being a production of "The Case of Rebellious Susan," commencing on Wednesday next.
