THE JOEL-SIEVIER CASE.
Received July 29. 8.10 a.m. LONDON, July 28. The trial of R. S. Sievier for the alleged using of threats to publish defamatory matter regarding J. B. Joel, with a veiw to extorting money, has commenced before the Lord Chiet Justice, Lord Alverstone. Received July 29, 12.50 p.m. LONDON, July 28. The case has concluded. Sir Rufus Isaacs searehingly crossexamined Mr J. B. Joel, the points including an allegation that Mr Joel offered Mr Markham, M.P., £IO,OOO, in 1902, to suppress a question in the House of Commons relating to Mr Joel's connection with the Imperial Cold Storage Company and the Army meat contract.
