JUNIO3 CHAMPIONSHIP.

RED STAR v. DALEPIBLD.

The final match for the junior championship in connection with the Wairarapa Rugby Union's fixtures was played at the Masterton Showgrounds on Saturday between the Red Star and Dalefield teams. There was a racord attendance for a junior match, a large number of visitor being present from Dalefield, Carterton, and other places in the South Wairarapa. The game was keenly contested, and a god exposition ot football was witnessed. Dalefield were the heavier team, but the local team made up for this in smartness. The Red Star forwards played with fine dash, while their backs were safe. In the first spell there was no score. About half way through the second spell Williams kicked a goal from a mark for Red Star. There was no further score,and the game, of which Red Star had slightly the beat, resulted in a win for them by 3 points to nil. Mr R. Spademan made an excellent referee, giving his decisions promptly and impartially. By winning this match Red Star secure the junior championship for the season, having won eleven out of twelve games.

GREYTOWN v. TE ORE ORE.

At Greytown, on Saturday, Te Ore Ore were defeated by Greytown by 11 points to nil.

POSITION OF'TEAMS.

The junior championship matches have now closed. Red Star has won the championship with Dalefield as runners up. The positions of the teams are as follow: —

PAHIATUA, July 25. To-day's football match Pahiatua v. Konini caused considerable interest. Despite the showery weather thrire was a large attendance. Pahiatua kicked off, and were very soon in trouble. Konini looked like scoring in the first five minutes. The ground was very slippery, and ball greasy, hut Kniiini kept th.3 local team busy defending. Konini had several shots from penaltiea before they succeeded in scoring a try. At halt-time Konini had scored three points to Pahiatua's nil. The visitors had the best of the game all through the spell. In the second spell both sides played a fast and willing game, and although Pahiatua had decidedly the best of the spell were unlucky in not being able to score though forcing their opponents several times. At the call of time the score was unaltered, Konini winning by three to nil. Scarborough Juniors were defeated | by Eketahuna Juniors, at Eketahun?, by 14 points to 6.

WELLINGTON, July 26. The Senior Championship matches were continued* in Wellington yesterday under perfect weather conditions. The Melrose Club has established its claim to the Championship, having a lead of six points over Oriental and Petone. Of eleven games played Melrose I ave won ten, the other being drawn. Yesterday's results are as follow:—Melrose 5 beat Oriental nil, Petone 11 beat Poneke 10, St. James 22 heat Athletic nil. Southern 12 beat Old Bnys 11, Wellington 9 beat Victoria College 3.

THE ASSOCIATION GAME,

An Association game was played at Lansdowne on Saturday between the Masterton and Y.M.C.A. Clubs, the former winning by 6 goals to 1. The ground was in good order, and a fast game resulted, in Whi'"h the winners had the advantage of combination, and experience \. of the rules. The losers shaped creditably, however, and with training should give a good account of themselves in future matches. Goals were scored for Masterton by McDougal (2), Shepherd (2), Nixon and Holmes, and for the losers by Tait. Mr J. Leichton was referee.
