UNREST IN INDIA.
SERIOUS STATE OF AFFAIRS. FURTHER QUOTING. MILITARY CALLED OUT. CALCUTTA, July 24. In connection with the sentenco passed upon Tilak, a Nationalist leader, for publishing seditious articles in a newspaper, a serious state of affairs exists in Bombay. The cloth and copper bazaars, other market places, and the majority of Hindoo shops are closed, out of sympathy with Tilak. Twenty thousand mill hands have struck. Further riots have occurred, and tlu military were called out. The troops were successful in suppressing the disturbance, during which they killed one person and wounded several. ATTEMPT TO WRECK A STATION. TRAIN HELD UP. MAGISTRATE AND POLICE STONLD. VOLUNTEERS FIRE ON MOB. Received July 2G, 4.80 p.m. CALCUTTA, July 25. A mob at Bombay attempted to wreck the Curry Road Station, and held up a train. They stoned a magistrate; and the police, whereupon the volunteers fired a volley, killing 5 and wounding 53. Tilak was sentenced last week to six years' transportation, and fined 1,000 rupees. About ten days ago 14,000 milloperatives at Bombay stiuck, and there was rioting. The military were called out on that occasion.
