THE NEW HEBRIDES.

Received July 22, 10 a.m. MELBOURNE, July 22.

Enquiries by the Federal Government indicate that the report that the French Government had appointed a judicial officer in tho New Hebrides under the new Franco British Convention is not well founded. A French judicial officer was relieved of his duties in New Caledonia, and appointed to act in the New Hebrides, but the appointment was not made under the new convention.
