SEVRAL SUGGESTED AMENDMENTS. *

OAMARU, July 21. A meeting of auctioneers decided to support the following amendments to the Auctioneers Act: — 1. An auctioneer to be permitted to provide a substitute during the currency of a license, and to be permitted to resume duty immediately, instead of with an interval of ten days, as at presen';; application to the local authority in this instance to be not ne-e'ssary; no reason to be given by the auctioneer appointing a substitute, lodging the application and payment of license fee being sufficient. 2. That an effort should be made to include the licensing of land agents as well as auctioneer. 0 , ar.d have the Act regulating the conduit of the business of auctioneers and land agents, with an additional recommendation by local auctioneers that those who already hold auctioneers' licenses be exempt fiom the payment of any additional fees. The following additional clauses deaired to be inserted in the Act were supported by local firms:— !3a. One or more licenses may be issued in the name of a company or firm which shall, at the time of applying for such licenses, nominate £ome person or persons in its emplov who shall, upon issue of smb, licences, and under the provisions ol the Act, be entitled to sell by public auction throughout the Dominion.

13b. The company or firm in whose name a license is issued ma*y from time to time throughout the currency of such license cancel any pieviius nomination in favour, of any other person in its employ on payment of a registration fee of 10s. ■. 13c. The nominee of any licensed company or firm ehall be exempt from the provisions of sections 18 to 20 inclusive, the section applying only to his employees.
