SCULLING.

Received July 21, 10.3 a.m. SYDNEY, July 21. The sculling champion of Australia Thoroughgood, desires to make a match with E. Durnan, the Canadian, for from £IOO to £SOO a-side, he allowing the Canadian expenses.

Benjamin Thoroughgood was the holder of the championship of Australia before the race with Fogwell last Saturday. The champion had had only two match races prior to Saturday, and had been defeated in both, although he put up a good showing in each. ( ln November, 1906, he met and was defeated by Charlie Towns, but the race was a terrific one from the word go. He was also beaten by Dick Tressider towards the end of last year, but as in his race with Towns, the win was a small one and the time good. He received the title when Tressider handed it to him to defend, when he challenged Webb for the championship of the world. Thoroughgood is so powerful and heavy that he had a new boat built on special lines that he considered would carry him better than the smaller ones.
