THE WESTPORT MURDER CASE.

The Vice-Consul for Norway here has asked the Premier for an inquiry into the police methods in connection with Haliman and Anderson, in the murder case. Sir Joseph Ward replied that he has referred the matter to the Minister for Justice., The hearing of the charges of alleged perjury against Connolly, the chief witness in the murder case, is proceeding f.o-day. The prosecution propose to call twenty witnesses, seven or eight of them being new. In the alleged murder charge against Connelly, no evidence was offered, and the case was dismissed. In the perjury case (thirteen counts), the clerk of the Court deposed that Connelly's demeanour was that of a person telling wilful lies, and he appeared to be on his guard all the time i Hugh Duncan, who found Burke dying, said his dog barked as if some other person was in the shed. The hearing was adjourned till Monday. Counsel said a woman had come forward with a statement, implicating Connelly alone in the assault.
