The Wellington Racing Club will open its winter jumping carnival at Trentham to-dajf. The going will inevitably be on the heavy side, but the course proper is so well drained that it recovers very rapidly from the, heaviest downpours. The principal races are the Parliamentary Handicap (one mile) on the flat, and the Winter Hurdles(two miles) over eight flights. The probable starters in the Parliamentary Handiciap are:— Mystification 10.11 (Davis); Truce 10.9 (Cairns), Irish Rifle 10.9 (Tate), Dawn 10.9 (F. D. Jones), Sir 'Frisco *10.2 (Ryan), Wailethe 10.2 (Hatch), Ssaman 10.1 (G. Price), Paragon I 9.10 (Donovan), Swimming Belt 9.10 | (W. Young), Rangipapa 9.8 (A. Oliver), Merrie Zealand 9.7 (F. Lungstone), Maharanui 9.6 (C. Cochrane), Comedian 9.6 (O'Brien), Silken Rein 9.4 (Cress), Mussell 9.4 (Price). The Winter Hurdle field will, in all likelihood comprise the following : Shrapnel (W.
