Mrs MacFarlane, of Tangaio, sister -of Mr W. Gillespie, of Masterton, is at present on a visit to Masterton. Mr Charles Taylor and Miss Ella *Carrington, who have been touring the -ijuntry with a dramatic cpmpany for soma years pist, left Wellington for Sydney last week. Their company 'has been disbanded. Captain J. C. McKilbp, of the Masterton Mounted Rifle.-?, has received official notice that he was successful in a military examination he -•entered for a few weeks ago, which qualities him for the Captaincy of his Company. The death occurred in Auckland of Mrs A. M. Coomb. The deceased >*lady was for some time licjnsee of ithe British and United Service | -Hotels, and she also owned several i well-known racehorses, amongst Vnich was the Auckland Cup winner, I Master Delaval. Owing to continue] illness, Mr McCarthy, S.M., in Uawke's Bay, has been compelled to apply for three months' leave nf absence from his • duties. The Justice Department will now hive to take the necessary steps * to fill the vacancy. Itftk The death is reported from Car.of Mr Duncan Camoron, a svcH-known colonist, particularly in ■connection with his famous Springfield estate at Met.hvcn, near Ash■burton. Mr Cameron was born in Invrriesjshire, and came to New Zealand by the ship Mirage in the year 1864. He was the son of the .late Mr John Cameron, of Glenfintaig, who came from the Camerona of Erracht.
