LANSDOWNE WATER SUPPLY.
DISCUSSION AT COUNTY COUN-
CIL MEETING,
Mr G. Laing-Meason, C.E., wrote to the meeting of the Masterton County Council, yesterday, stating that though the Opaki-Lansdowne water supply poll was carried some time ago he had heard nothing yet as to proceeding with the surveys. He stated ithat if the scheme were required for next summer, further delay would be inadvisable. Cr Harris said that he thought ths-t before the Council went on any further* with the scheme more inquiry should be made as to whether there was sufficient money provided under the loan for the work. He said the promoters of the scheme, and the report itself had provided very scanty information, and that sdnce the original report was drawn up the number •of houses in Lansdowne had doubled. Cr Toogood pointed out that Mr Laing-Meason had declared that his .scheme would do for a population three times the then size ot Lansdowne. then pointed out that it "would take all the money pro/ided for under the-loan to provide the water supply without paying comper..sation to property owners affected who were not benefited by the .scheme. He moved that the promoters of the scheme be asked to supply information respecting the cost of land»to ba purchased, the fencing of .races, and tha increasing of the sizes of the pipes. Cr 'ioogood said that Cr Harris wished to*go away from the original .scheme. He would support a motion asking for information on points connected with the scheme proposed. Other Councillors concurred with k Cr Toogood in this attitude. It was eventually decided to apply to the promoters of the scheme for further information, and if they • could not supply it, to apply to Mr Laing-Meason for it.
