FIRE AT WEST TARATAHI.

MR. B. RAYNER'S HOUSE DESTROYED.

News was received by the Masterton Police, yesterday, of a fire at V.'est Taratahi, the residence of Mr B. R. Rayner being totally destroyed. The particulars to hand ara meagre, but it appears that at 2 o'clock yesterday morning Mr Rayner's eldest son awoke and discovered the house to be on ? fire, the flames having a very strong hold. It was a miracle that the inmates escaped with their lives, so fit roe was the fire when it was discovered. Mr Rayner was away at Pahiatua, and Mrs Rayner is lying seriously ill at the Maaterton Hospital, the six children being the only ones at home.' No details as to insurances were ascertainable last night.
