CHAMPIONSHIP OF AUSTRALIA. Received July 10, 11.55 p.m. SYDNEY, July 10. The Open Golf Championship of Australia commenced to-day. Pearce (Tasmania) won the first round, going the round in 75. Duncan (New Zealand) was next with 76. The scores of the other New Zealanders were:— Bidwill (Wairarapa) 83, Tareha 86, Handyside 93. The green was heavy after last night's rain.
