HOSPITAL DISTRICT AMALGAMATION.
Nothing could have been more satisfactory to the people of the Wairarapa Hospital District than to see the earnestness displayed by their local bodies on their behalf in the matter of the proposed amalQamation of Wellington and Wairarapa Hospital Districts under the Hospitals and Charitable Aid Bill. Throughout the piece the delegates appointed by the local bodies have thrown the utmost energy into the matter of showing the district's being "lacke:l on" to Wellington, and the deputation which waited upon the M:nist'T of Hospitals on Wednesday could hardly have been more representative of the district. The Minister's naive conversion of the term centralisation into combination was certa'nly a pretty play on words, but that was all. It does not alter the fundamental fact that Wellington intends to fill the box seat on the Hospital coach if amalgamation is accomplished. Then his denial that county -ating will not be increased is cot, vvc are assured on very reliable authority, quite accurate, but it was satisfactory to hear him extend "personal" sympathy to the deputation. If he will only extend that personal sympathy when the Bill comes before the House Wairarapa will ask no more. We are informed by an authority, who has intimace knowledge of the Government's intentions as a rule, that the proposed amalgamation will prolably be abandoned after all. If this is so, the district has every reason to be proud of the work done by the local bodies, who have taken the matter up, and particularly of the deputation which so ably stated the case for Wairarapa to the Minister.
