CRICKET.
TRIANGULAR TEST MATCH
STRONG CRITICISM. BY TELEGItAPH—PKESS ASSOCIATION. Received July 9, 8.20 a.m. LONDON, July 8. Several personal letters in sporting newspapers disapprove of the Marylebone Club's attitude regarding the triangular tests scheme. One declares that the club ignored common politeness and fairness towards the Australians. The "Athletic News" declares that the Marylebone Club is coercing, not considering Australia. It adds that Friday's decision does not tend in the direction of fulfiling the club's moral obligation under its invitation to the Australians to visit England in 1909. A writer in the "Express" says:— "Australian cricketers reap a rich harvest in England Friday's decision shows that the money in cricket is not the purpose for which the Australians are invited." Most of the newspapers, apparently, recognising a delicate situation, do not seem desirous of commenting on the subject.
The Advisory Committee passed a resolution asking the Marylebone Club to inform the Board of Control of cricket in Australia that the counties are so strongly in favour of triangular contests that it v/ill be impossible to invite any colonial eleven to visit England for the 1909 season except for that purpose.
