.-MASTERTON v. RED STAR. 2

The Masterton and Red Star JSeniora met on the Showgrounds'on • Saturday afternoon, and for the time this season the latter ! proved victorious. The ground was ■ somewhat heavy, but the other conditions were favourable to good loot- .■ ball- The game was certainly the most interesting that has been played this season, being fast and exciting : all through. The rushes of the Red Star forwards were irresistible and •accounted in a large degree for the win of the Stars. In the first spell Red Star played with the sun at their backs. About half-way through the spell splendid forward play Red Star put Masterton on the defence. B. Welch snapped up the ball from the loose and dived across the line. No goal resulted. There was no further score in Ahe spell, which ended —Red • Star 3, Masterton nil. The second spell was even more ex than the first, especiallly when shortly after commencing A. Ross scored a clever try tor Masterton. For borne time after this Red Star were kept defending their line, and several times a probable score was . saved only by the stubborn defence of . of the Black and White. At Greytown on Saturday, Carterton defeated the local Seniors by 14 points to 5.

Masterton 111. defeated Red Star 111./ on Fraser's Paddock, by 9 points to 5. Fly and Wellington scored tries for Masterton, and J. Hanley kicked a goal. Measenger scored a try for Red Star, converting it himself. Mr W. Harding was referee. The following team will represent Wairarapa against Bush, on Saturday next:— Full-back, Duggan (Red Star;; three-quarters, Russell (Greytown), Groube Darvill (Masterton); five-eighths, U'Leary (Masterton), Jury (Greytown); halfback, Adams (Red Star); wing forward, R. McKenzie (Red Star); forwards, McCarthy (Red Star), Wickens (Greytown), Wines (Greytown), Brenchley (Masterton), Levick (Carterton), C. Rosb (Masterton), Henderson (Carterton). Emergencies —Backs, N. McKenzie and Fairbtother; forwards, Mason, Barry and Johnston. This will be the team that is to tour tl<e South Island. A meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Union was held on Saturday night.
