Constable A. Hammond, of Feathr erston, has received notice of his promotion to t!he Detective Office in Christchurch. His successor has not yet been appointed.

Mr J. Scott, of Woodville, who j intends to reside at Taumaranui, has j been presented by the members of | the Wpodville Jockey Club with a marble clock as a mark of esteem. Mr W. A. Fendall, who will leave Masterton to-day for Whangarei, was presented by the Wairarapa Yorkshire Society, on Saturday evening, with a handsome illuminated address. The presentation was made by the President (Mr E. H. Waddington), who said tha Society regretted very much to lose Mr Fendall, who had been a prominent member since the Society's formation. Several other members also spoke in the same strain, congratulations also being extended to Mr Fendall on his promotion Ihe guest's health was then toasted enthusiastically, and three cheers accorded to him. Mr B. H. Pascoe, who -has just taken up the position of Resident Secretary for New Zealand of the Australian Widows' Fund Life Society, has had a long life insurance experience. Fntering the service of j the Equitable Life Society in Mel-, bourne, at the beginning of 1886, as j shorthand-writer, he was quickly promoted to cashier, and when the Society's business was extended to Tasmania, towards the end cf 1889, he was appointed local manager. Three years afterwards, he took charge of South Australia, whilst in 1900 he became joint manager for Victoria, Sout/h Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania. Two years later he accepted the position of Chief Inspector for Australasia, and in succesive years paid three visits to New Zealand. After the Equitable Life Society discontinued business in Australia, about two years ago, Mr Pascoe, who at that time was manager for Victoria, was elected a member of the Stock Exchange of Melbourne, and still retains his seat.
