BRAZIL'S NEW WARSHIPS.
"NEW YORK HERALD'S" STATEMENT. "SHEER INVENTION." Received July 3, 9.48 p.m. RIO JANEIRO, July 3. The "New York Herald's" statement in reference to the Brazilian warships cabled on June 27th, is officially described at Rio as a sheer invention.
The "New York Herald" asserted that Brazil was ordering in England 30 warships, including three Dreadnoughts, which were really intended for Japan. The Brazilian representative in Washington (Mr Irving H. Dudley) denied that the ships were intended for Japan.
