HOSPITAL BALL.

K A BRILLIANT FUNCTION.

Tha utmost expectations were realised in regard to the Hospital Ball, held in the Drill and Town Halls, Masterton, last evening. The attendance was variously estimated at from 150 to 200 couples, and the Bcene in the dancing hall when the ball was in full swing was a most brilliant one. Visitors were present from all parts of the Wairarapa, and generally speaking the function eclips.ee! any previous hospital ball in point of attendance. The Drill Hall had been artistically decorated with bunting and evergreens by Mr A. O. Levien, and its appearance was the subject of universal favourable comment. The floor of the hall wa3 also treated to a greater preparation than it has had for a very long time, with the result that it gave every satisfaction. The Town Hall was use:l for a supper room and drawing room, the auditorium on the ground floor being prettily Eet out for the latter purpose by the ladies' committee. The supper was of, the sumptuous character, which has abvvays made the Hospital BalP distinctive, ar.d the attendance waa all that could bede.-ired. The music was supplied by Mr Reihana Boyes' orchestra, and left no room for complaint. The arrangements for the ball were in capable hands when entrusted to Mr H. M. Boddinarton, and to his energy and that of the ladies! committee the success" of the function is lai'gcly due. The ladies' committee waa as follows: —Mesdames Hugh H. Beetbam, Blackrnan, J. C. Boddington, Caselhcrg, Cochrane, Collier, J. M.iCoradine, Dr. Helen Cowie, Day, Dolon, Hogg, W. H. Hosking (President), Kendall, D. E. Morrison, S. A. Noble-Campbell, Rayner, Tabutoad and Miss Vallance. Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P., telegraphed his regret at himself and Mrs Hogg being unable to attend through the serious illness of their son in Wellington.
