A meeting of the creditors in the bankrupt estate of J. G. Ball, stock rfpaler, was held .in the Courthouse, 'Master-ton, yesterday, before the Deputy Official Assignee (Mr W. B. Chennells). '• Mr C. A. Pownall /appeared for bankrupt, and the following creditors were present:—Messrs J. Carpenter, C. Graham, J. Caselberg (W.F.C.A.), F. Braddock (Warnock' and Adkin). Mr Pownall also acted for Mr H. S. Wardell, a creditor. Bankrupt submitted a written statement as follows:—"I came to Masterton on October Ist last, under agreement to the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. At that time I was in debt to Taranaki and Wanganui creditors, but I expected to be able to pay them off, as my s.dary was £250 per annum. I found, however, that my old creditors were pressing me for payment, and one creditor (Paul, of Wanganui) obtained an order against me, the cause of which was that I was called upon to resign my position and subsequently to file my petition." Bankrupt, examined by the D.O.A. said that he was still out of employment, and his filing might prevent him from obtaining a fresh position. All the Masterton debts were con- , tracted s'nce he came to Masterton. He was a married man, with five children, and had not been out of employment for the past three years until the present time. Prior to coming to Masterton he was employed by Jackson and Co. at a salary of £3OO, without expenses, working for them for three and a half years. All debts were incurred in house-keeping, except £3 borrowed. Bankrupt e|ftd that He borrowed the money fWi his father to file with. His father was fairly well to do, and there were six in family. He paid £7 14s to Bunny and Dolan to take action against the solicitors acting for Paul and Co., of Wanganui, for obtaining an order for imprisonment after agreeing to take monthly payments. He paid £7 ot the amount owing to Paul and Co.'s solicitors, and intended to pay the Masterton creditors out of his earnings at Masterton. Bankrupt kept no record of his receipts and payments during the past three years. Doctors bills had cost him £6O to £7O in cash during that time.
After a general discussion, a motion was carried that the furniture belonging to bankrupt be handed over to his wife.
It was also further resolved that bankrupt's discharge be recommended conditionally on his confessing judgment for an amount equal to the payment of a dividend of 7s 6d in tne £, 5s cash and 2a Gd within twelve months. The meeting then adjourned.
