LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
The Legislative Council assembled for a few minutes after the opening ceremony. Leave of absence was granted to the Hon. George John Smith for the session.
The Hon. Charles Louisson's appointment of Councillor having expired by effluxion of time, he was re-appointed. On the motion of the AttorneyGeneral, the Council passed a vote of sympathy on the death of the lato Jas. Bennett, similar to that recorded in the other Chamber. The Hon, C. Louisson gave notice to move the Address-in-Rep'ly at {he naxt bitting d-iy. \
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Tne House met at 2.30. Dr C mpple, the member for- Tuapeka, wad sworn in and took his seat, and gave notice to move the Addreas-in-Reply to-morrow. I The Premier introduced the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill, which vv;i.j rend a first time. ,'Tne Premier intimated that the 'Rdyal asaenfc bar) been given to the Chinese Immigration Restriction Bill, and also that the Imprest Stlpply Bill would be introduced tomorrow. If the debate on this Bill and the AddrcsH-in-Reply were not protracted, he would bring down the Financial Statement next week, prob-
ably on Tuesday. On Wednesday he would make a statement regarding the new Parliamentary Buildings. The Premier then moved, and Mr W. F. Massey seconded, a vote of condolence and sympathy on the death of the late Mr Jas. Bennett, member for Tuapeka. Several members spoke in support of the motion, and the House adjourned I at 3.30 till to-morrow as a mark of respect to his memory.
