CHESS.
Y.M.C.A. v. WANGANUI. On' Saturday evening a was made with the telegraphic chess match Wanganui Chess Club versus Masterton Y.M.C.A. Chess Club. Owing to some defect in the telegraphic arrangements at the Wanganui end play did not commence until 9.45 p.m. instead of 7 p.m., as decided upon. The arrangements at the Masterton Post Offife were most satisfactory, and the local contestants are greatly indebted to Mr Inder arid staff for their courtesy and consideration in placing a room at their disposal, and in looking after their comfort in every way. By midnight the eamcs hud reached an interesting stage, when it was decided to adjourn, and arrange for a continuation of the match on some future Saturday. Mr Candy acted a!i umpire for Wanganui. Supper wai provided by Mr C. Winchester. Lacal arrangements were successfully carried out by the match commitC'c, Messrs H. Lett (secretary) and G. A. Jones. The Masterton players were:—Messrs W. Kummer, G. A. Jones, H. Lett, D. Lett," W. S. Le-.t, C .Winchester, W. Hood, H. H. Kummer.
