SUICIDE OF A SETTLER.

PALMERSTON N., June 27. A well-known settler, named Laurence Laurenson, shot himself at Tokomaru this morning, death being instantaneous. The deceased previously had been a builder and contractor, but during recent years had devoted himself to farming on a large scale, having several leasehold and freehold properties. He had been speculating heavily in stock, and a fall in prices considerably affected his financial position. It is thought that worry induced insomnia, which resulted in the dreadful occurrence of this morning. He is survived by a wife and five children.
