Mr Palis Jensen, an old resident of Ormondville, died at the Dannevirke Hospital on Thursday last. Mr Chamberlain, of Hukanui, has purchased a property at Ellesmere, near Christchurch. Mr A. G. R. Crawford has purchased Mr T. Delahunty's farm at Makuri. Mr Delahunty intends to reside at Konini.
At Woodville, Jast week, Miss C. V. Franklin, eldest daughter of Mr J. Frankliny. of Woodville, was married to [Mr A. J. Rendle, third son of Mr J. Rendle, of Woodville. The members of the Wellington Law Society, Dr Mc\rthur, S.M., and Mr Riddell, S.M., officially bade farewell to Sub-Inspector O'Donovan, at Wellington, on Saturday. Mr T. Young, president of the Law Society, spoke in eulogistic terms of the SubInspector's ability, tact and courtesy, and his indomitable energy. The Sub-Ingpactor had qualified as a solicitor. Mr Wilford, M.P., thanked Subon behalf of the Salvation Army and other institutions for the work he had done. The ,two Magistrates and others also spoke in high terms of the Sub-Inspector's absolute fairness and high character. Sub-Inspector O'Donovan will leave to-day to take charge of the new district cf Palmerston North.
Poriki Renata, a well-known Native of the Wairarapa, died at Waikekeno, Flat Point, after a very long illness last week, deceased bsing buried at Waikekeno, on Friday. The deceased was the youngest son of the late Te Marga Renata, of Waikekeno. Poriki Renata belonged to the well-known East Coast tribes, viz., Ngati Maahu, Ngati Rongomaiaia and Ngai Teao. Deceased died at the early age of thirty and leaves a widow and two children. He left no will of any description, and the elders of the tribe are holding council at the present regarding the succession by his two children of his numerous properties. Another death among the Maoris occurred at Ngamabanga, East Coast on Wednesday last, in the person of Whanaurangi Rei Paku, youngest daughter of Mr Rei Paku,, who died after an illness of three days. A tangi was held at Kaioata, where ths remains were interred.
Mr W. A. Fendall, teller at the local Bank «f New Zealand, has received notice of his promotion to the position of accountant at Whangarei, for which place he will leave next Monday. During his six years residence in Masterton, Mr Fendall has enjoyed universal popularity in a wide social circle, and his departure will be keenly regretted, although his promotion will be learnt of with pleasure. A prominsnt member of the Anglican Church, Mr Fendall holds the position of lay reader and bein# also a leading member of the choir, of which he has on occasions acted as choirmaster. He is also secretary and treasurer of the Wairarapa Automobile Association, a member of the Choral Union Committee, and a vice-president of the Orchestral ' Society. On the School Committee also Mr Fendall has done excellent work, and his loss will be greatly felt. Mr J. Murray, of Ashburton, succeeds Mr Fendall i at Masterton.
