STEADY STREAM OF IMMIGRANTS REQUIRED.
MR KIDSTON'S VIEWS

One hundred and thirtj persons, including Mr W. P. Reeves, High Commissioner for New Zealand, were present at the Queensland dinner.
Mr Kidston, Premier of Queensland, replied to the toast of "Queensland." He said he was gratified at the States display at the Shepherd's Bush Exhibition, and dilated on the healthy expansion of all industries in Queensland. Queensland had no need to borrow now, as she was in the ful ness of a prosperity such as she had never known before. "We will not bnrow anymore unless we can put the money to profitable use in developing Queensland," said Mr Kidston. They were going to have a period of great industrial activity in Queensland. New railways would open up mineral and timber country, and new areas of agricultural settlement. The State wanted a steady stream of white immigrants." The more that come the better for us and the better for them," said the speaker. The Exhibition at Shepherj's Bush was only the first essay in the propaganda of making Queensland better known in the British Jsles. For the development of Australia there was undoubted need for a central government, and also for strong, healthy State Govermnei.ts.
