The Wellington Education Board has accepted the resignation of Mr A. RoyJhouse, of the Carterton school.

Mr McCulium, of the Featherstcn rail-vav sfaff, has been transferred to WiHinsst.n. His place ha* been filled by Mr H. J. Godfrey, of Waipukurau.

A notice in the Gazette states that Mr Daniel O'Rcurke has been appointed Registrar of Marriages, Births, and Deaths for the district of Pahiatua. »

Mr W. W. Scott, teacher in charge of Matigamnire School, who recently met with an accident, has been gianted leave of absence by the Education Board.

News has been received of the demise of Mrs W. J. Roydhouse, at Sydney, on Wednesday las'. The decease', who was the mother of Mr W. K Roydhouse, editor of the "Wairarapa Daily New.--," came to New Zealand with her husbanr 1 Mr V/. J. Roydhouse, a little over forty years ago, residing fiis 1 ; at Wellington, but the greater part of the time in Grey town, Wairarapa. •Her husband (Mr W. J. Roydhouse) and a family of three sons aitf five daughters, all grown up, survive her, but Mr Roydhouse is at present seriously ill, and no hopes are entertained for his recovery. At the cime of her death, Mrs Roydhouse was on a visit to her son in Sydney, New South Wales (Mr T. R. Roydhouse, editor of the "Sydney Sunday Times"). She died at the age of 77 years.

Mr D. Elliot, Relieving Inspector of Stock, who has recently been transferred to Hawera from the Master ton office, was the recipient of a presentation at-the hands of his brother officials yesterday, prior to his leaving for hi:? new district. A handsome case of silver-mountei pipes was given to Mr Elliot, the function being carried out by Mr G. 11. Jeikinson, District Inspector, who expressed the great regret of the office staff at lo.ing Mr Elliot, and who eulogised the recipient's work during his term of r.ffice in Masterton. Mr A. D. Gillies, Abattoir Manjger, paid a tribite to Mr Elliot's efficiency as Manager ot the Abattoir prior to Mr Gillies taking charge,' the latter otat ing that Mr Elliot had conducted the works on an excellent system, which made his successor's task much lighter than it otherwise might have been. Mr Elliot suitably responded. Mr Elliot left by the mid-day train far his new station. He carries with him the good wishes of a large number of friends.
