LACHRYMOSE ONIONS.
Onions are at the best tearful things, but they do not usually cause so much anxiety as a bag which was the Rubject of a civil action in the Magistrate's Court, at Mi-.tetton, yesterday. The unfortunate vegetables had already been the cause of three hearings, including a specia; sitting of tne Court, and they were very nearly causing a fourth hearing (another special sitting), ihe litigants had counsel engaged on each side, they themselves came distances of over twenty miles tj contest the action, and various witnesses were called. Even expert evidence was produce. to show, as counsel said, that "onions is onions," a id have a market price which varies. Another side issue of importance—and one without precedent in the knowledge of counsel engaged and the Bench--was a legal point as to whether the action was properly before the Couit, and so whether the Court had jurisdiction. Tho maze of weighty responsibilities attached to the action caused matters to become in some : what of a whirl, but finally counsel on one side agreed to waive all technicalities and the case proceeded under serener conditions. And the amount in dispute was £1!
