HUGHES' SHIELD

KIA TOA v. HUIA

A match was nlayed at Greytown, yesterday, between th<j Kia Toa (Greytown) and Huia teams, and resulted in a win for the Home team by 6 goals to 1. The match was played throughout in pouring rain, except for the last ten minutes. Nevertheless some splendid play was seen on both sides. Throughout the game the home team were attackirg strongly. Immudiatey after the "hully" Greytown attacked strongly, and within five minutes had scored their first goal. Shortly after t h p ball was passed out to Miss Richards, who took it right down the line and then centred it right across the field to Miss Dalrymple. The latter player carried the bail down the opposite line and centred to Miss Richards.who, outpacing her opponents, scored aip lend id goal. Greytown then attacked strongly, and ' before half time bad added three more goals to their credit. Dunne the second spell the game was more even, but tne i;ome ieam began to play with better combination, and but for the excellent defence of Misses La Roche and Tcters, the score may have beeni larger. By good play Greytown succeeded in adding two more goals before tin e was called. The gonl scored by the Huias is the first goal that has been registered against the Greytown team in four years. Mr D. C. Humphries made an impartiul referee. After the match the visitors were entertained at ten by the Greytown ladies.

HIGH SCHOOL v. GLENGARRY.

A match was played on the Showgrounis yesterday tllteriiouu between the High School and Glengarry tear. s. The ground was in a bad state through the wet weather, but nevertheless a very good game was witnessed. Glengany had the best of the first spell and missed several good opportunities to score through over eagerness. The school iranaged to prevent a scor*. In the second spell cue school had sltehtlv tb*> of * h ° game\ and scored two goals, both hit by Miss R. Wilton, while Glen garry failed to score. Mr B. lveson was referee.

The Hinemoa and Paka Koura tearr.s met on the local Recreation Grounds to-day, when, after a good game, the home team* won by 1 goal (scored by Miss C. Easthope) to nil. The ground was very heavy owing to the rain. MAJOR CUP. CARTERTON B v. CARTERTON A. The Carterton A and B teams met on the Showgrounds, at Carterton, yesterday. The ground was very soft. The teams did not show very good combination. The game resuted in a win for the A team by two goals to one. A. Dudson scored both goals for the A team, and T. Major scored for the B team. Mr W. J. O'Meara was referee. KNOX v. W.F.C.A. "A". These teams met at Lansdowne, Knox winning by two goals to nil. Loader and Ibbetsen scored for the winners. , Y.M.C.A. v. W.F.C.A. "B."
