There is a good deal of political life on the West Coast at present According to Mr Guinness, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Messrs T. Y. Seddon, M.P., and H. L. Michel, will fight a big battle for the representation of Westland in the next Parliament. Both candidates are expected to receive strong support, and it is anticipated that the contest will be a very interesting one. So far as Buller is concerned, the contest will be between Mr F. Munro (a brother of the manager of tho late Exhibition)\and Mr Colvin, the sitting member. Reports are to the effect that Mr Munro will put up a very strong fight. The only opposition Mr Guinness expects is a nominee of the No-License party, who will enter the field to secure a vote on the local option question Mr T. K. Sidcy has already two candidates out against him for Dunuriiu South, his new seat. They are Mr R. Slater and Mr W. Flemingl, both standing in the Liberal interest. Mr G. Thompson is out in the Opposition inteieit against Mr A. R. Barclay for Dunedin North. Mr I. Green, Mayor of North East Valley, may also contest this seat.
