MASTERTON GASWORKS.
MANAGER'S MONTHLY REPORT. The' Manager ot tne Borough Gasworks (Mr J. W. Blackman) submitted report at the meeting of the Gas and Library Committee on Monday evening:—The gas made for the month of May shows an increase of 30 per cent., and gas sold per meter an increase of 20.58 per ctnt., as compared to the corresponding period of last year. During the month seven new services have been laid, and seven new meters fixed. The proposed extensiun of mains in Johnston street and Makora road will be starred in course of a day or two. In the matter of the additional street lamps authorised in some places there will be lengths of small mains to be laid, arid also new lamp posts, etc. A local firm is prepared to supply suit-able-C.I. posts for the same rate as paid for those brought from Wellington and subject to the Committee's approval an order for, Fay, a dozen posts could be placed locally. Re extension of Maiiis to supply Yates' estate, three applications are in, and contractors inform me that if the mains are laid gas pipes will be put in the houses while building. The lengths of main required are as fallows:—Wright and Tararua streets, 20 chains 3ln C.I. pipes; Pownall street, from Cornwall street to Renall street. 28 chains, estimated cost £5 10a per chain. Re new raibonising station: —I beg leave to remind the Committee that the plant required should be ordered very shortly if delivery is to be assured and the installing of same completed in time for next winter's business. The plant required for next yiatwill be the following:-- Concenters estimated cost, f.0.b., London, £150; two washer scrubber?, _ estimated C33t, f„o.b., London, £250 t The 9in mains necessary for the yard connection and the trunk main to the gaa-holders, hydraulic main guverno pnometer, and other accessories for the new retort house and rhachinery room. I shou.d be pleased if the Committee will deal with these and other matters in connection with the new works as soon as possible. The manufacturing plant is in good order. It was resolved on the motion of Cr Ewington, seconded by the Chairman, (1) that Mr Blackman procure tenders for twelve posts as to pattern ; (2) that the re-purchase of plant stand over till next meeting.
