The funeral took place at Pahiatua yesterday afternoon, of -the infant son of Mr James Avery, who died a few days ago, telegraphs our correspondent. The remains were followed by a long corttge of sympathising friends of the family. Lieut. Hard, bandmaster of the Wellington Garrison Band, has been invite:! to accept the conductor3hip of the War.ganui Garrison Band, in succession to Mr Chrichton, whose health is not s i good as it Was. . Though the offer is a tempting one, Lieut. Herd cannot see his way ulear to accept the position on account of hi* interests in Wellington.
