BY TKS.2GUAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. DEATH FROM BURNS. HAWERA, June 22. The nightdress of a seven-year-old daughter of Mr R. Kapperly, a settler of this district, caught alight while she was putting a log on the fire. The little girl received severe injuries, ani died last night.
LOST OVERBOARD. GISBORNE, June 22. A report received from Port Awanui states that Captain Mack, of the fishing smack "J, No. 20," Auckland, was in the vicinity of Waipiro Bay on Wednesday, in company with a man narred .Wm. Christie, when they were blown out to sea. Mack left Christie in charge of the boat while he had a rest. Next morning when he got up there was no sign of Christie. Mack navigated his small craft single-handed in the vicinity of East Cape, being for three days without water. Be managed to get into Te Araroa yesterday.
A TRAIN ACCIDENT. , HAMILTON, June 22. John Connelly, a train examiner, was run over during shunting operations, and in constquence had a leg amputated at the hospital.
AN ULTIMATUM. GREYMOUTH, Juno 22. The union at Otira decided that Messrs M'Lean Bros, be allowed a week to come to a reasonable settlement with the men; failing thin, all the men to cease work on 29th inst.
LIGHTERMEN'S DISPUTE. DISSATISFACTION WITH AN AWARD. GISBORNB, June 22. The Arbitration Court's recent award in the lightermen's dispute came into force to-day. The award provides for a reduction of a penny per hundred ;'n the handling of mutton and beef, and 2sd less for lambs than the prices previously paid by the Gisbornc sheep-farmers. Lightermen ' who have been employed in this work this morning declined engagement stating that the rates under the award were not adequate, and that they would seek other employment. The company are employing the permanent men and a number of casuals, and the work of loading the steamer Karantea is proceeding.
THE APPLEBY COACH FATALITY.
NELSON, June 22. The Grand Jury threw Bill against Charles Breckland, charged with manslaughter, on account of a co ich accident at Appleby, in which a woman was killed.
