—. «. THE EDUCATION BILL LONDON, June 19. Dr Hurst, of Hollowell, commenting on the result of the Bishop of Manchester's Education Conference, considers that the proposed settlement would leave things in a worse and more confused state than at present.
OLD AGE PENSIONS
A NUMBER OF SUGGESTIONS,
LONDON, June 19
Mr Lloyd-George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, informed a deputation from the friendly socities that the Government meant to make membership of a friendly society a qualification for pensions.
He suggested the adoption of the following siding scale: —If a man's income amounted to 8s a week, he should receive a State pension of ss; if 9s per week, he. should receive 4s; until at 12s a week he should receive Is.
AFFORESTATION.
LONDON, June 20
The Prime Minister (Right Hon. EI. 11. Asquith), intends next year to egislate on the question of afforestation.
