LONG TUNNEL EXPLOSION. DEATH OF A VICTIM. Received June 19, 10.36 a.m. MELBOURNE, June 19. Kerr, one of the victims of the explosion in the Long Tunnel mine ar Walhalla, is dead.
A QUEENSLAND STATION. PURCHASED BY HON. J. D. ORMOND. Received June 19, 10.40 a.m. BRISBANE, June 19. The Hon J. D. Ormond, of Hawke's JbJay, New Zealand, has purchased the St. Helen's station, near Pittsworth, comprising eighteen thousand acres, for sixty thousand pounds. Other Queensland properties are under offer to Mr Ormond.
IN A FOG.
NARROW ESCAPE OF A STEAMER.
Received June 19, 10.36 a.m. SYDNEY, June 19
During a heavy fog on the coast yesterday the Huddart Parker steamer Westralia had a narrow escape. When the fog lifted for a moment the steamer was seen to be running straight for the rocks near Fort Hacking. With prompt action the vessel was swung clear, but her stern bumped (he bottom twine heavily. Received June 20, 12.33 a.m. SYDNEY, June 19. The Westralia, which will be docked to-morrow, is leaking slightly.
A LAY READER SHOT DEAD
Received June 20, 1.3 a.m. MELBOURNE, June 19. An Anglican lay reader, named Robinson, was shot dead at Blackwood by Win. Pi-.icombe, who also fired at the constable who went to arrest him. The latter fired, seriously woun'ling Pincombe. Detaih of the tragecy are meagre.
