PROPOSED EUROPEAN CONGRESS. Received June 19, 9.35 p.m. LONDON, June 19. Reuter reports that the French Minister for the Colonies supports the movement in favour of the holding of a European Congress to discuss the projection of blacks.

MR TAFT'S NOMINATION
A GREAT DEMONSTRATION,
Received June 19, 9.15 p.m. NEW YORK, June 19. At the Republican National Convention at Chicago, when Mr W. 11. Taft was proposed for the Presidency, there was a demonstration second only'to that accorded to President Roosevelt. Seven hundred and two voted for Mr Taft; 68 tor Senator Know; 63 for Mr C. E. Hughes, Governor of New York; 61 for Mr J. C. Speaker of the House; 40 for Mv C. W. Fairbanks, President of the Senate; 25 for Senator Lafolette, and 16 for Senator J. R. Foraker. The Pensylvanian delegates, amidst immense cheering, cast three votes for President Roosevelt. Mr Taft's nomination will be more unanimous at the subsequent vote. In the presence of a gatheing of 14,000 the Convention adopted Resident Roosevelt's platform.
