NO-LICENSE MOVEMENT.
WELLINGTON, June 18. At the No-License Convention, a committee representative of the Dominion was set ur.. to consider the question of finance and to report to the next Convention. -' A paper on the organisation of the party was read by Mr Murine, of Palmerston North, and it was decided to print it in the "Vanguard." The question of temperance instruction in public schools was left in the hands of the Alliance Executive. The Convention decided to convey congratulations to Dr Chappie on his election to the Tupeka seat. Several speakers commented on the fact that Dr Chappie had always been a supporter of No-license. Congratulations were ordered to be sent to the Rev. Mr Crump on attaining his 80th year. At ttie annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance (Mr H. S. Adarn3 in the chair), the report and balancesheet was adopted. The following resolution was passed, "That this annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance assembled in Wellington on June 18th, 1908, expresses its deep regret and indignation that, in response to the request of the British Government for information in respect to the working of local option in the Dominion, the Minister of Justice failed to give any adequate response to the request." The following officers were elected: —President, Mr Wesley Spragg (Auckland); vice-presidents, Messrs A. S. Adams and D. C. Cameron, with the vice-presidents already elected. The revision of the listof vice-presidents was left in the hands of the committee to report on at the next annual convention.
