The weather was all that could be desired for the British-West Coast football match to-day. The attetidance was about 5,000 and the ground although a little soft was in good order. The visitors won the toss and played with a southerly wind in their favour, which was a great advantage. The following were ths teams:— Britain.—Full-back, E. J. Jackett (Cornwall and England); three-quar-ters,'R. B. Griffiths (Monmouth), J. Ponty Jones (Monmouth and Wales), Dr P. F. M'.Evedy (captain, Kent), R. A. Gibbs (Glamorgan and Wales) ; half-back, W. Davey (Cornwall); forwards, R. Dibble (Somerset and England), W. L. Oldham (Midlands), F. Jackson (Cornwall), G. R. Hind (Kent), T. W. Smith( Leicester), E. Morgan (Glamorgan), G. V. Kyrke (Somerset). Combined West Coast.—Full-back, G. M'Kay (West Coast); threequarters, C. Gomer (West Coast), R. Calvin (Buller), Maddison (Buller) ; five-eights, W. Sweetman (West Coast), Denham (Buller); halfback, W. Brown (Buller); wing forward, F. C. Wade (West Coast); forwards, J. P. Roberts (WestCoaßt), M. Houston (West Coast), A. Bennett (West Coast), S. Blyth (Buller), Hogg (Buller), W. Sotheran (West Coast), J. Cofbett (Buller). The gan.e was made fast from the start, but the Coast forwards were quick in spoiling the backs. After ten minutes play, a Coast player was penalised lor being off-side, and Gibbs, by an excellent kick, landed a goal from half-way. Britain ••• 3 Coast ••• nil
The Coast were continually penalised for off-side and illegal tackling, and several attempts at goal failed. Illegal tackling uy Colvin gave the Bmiuhers a free kick in front of the goal, and Gibba placed a pretty goal. Britain ... 6 Coast •■• nil The Coast backs were playing badly, repeatealy knocking on, but McKay, the Coast full-back, played splendidly. McEvedy made a splendid run. and passing to Kyrke, near the line, the latter scored and Gibbs
converted. Britain ... 11 Coast ... nil W. Morgan, the British five-eighth, retired through an injury to his leg. The Coast were repeatedly penalised, and the referee came in for some hostite criticism, the crowd hooting. I Half-time was called with the score: | Britain ... 11 : Coast ... nil On resuming Morgan again took the field, and the coast made play willing, but the backs passed wildly. Gibhs, after a fine dashing run, crossed the line, but failed to register the extra points. Britain ... 14 Coast ... nil The Coast made desperate efforts to score, but only the fine play of Jackett prevented them. The Coast secured a fair share of the ball from the scrum, but the half seemed content to work the blind side. McEvedy, from a scrum, secured the ball and made a splendid run. only being stopped by McKay at full-back. A fine passing rush between Morgan, Davey, McEvedy and Gibbs, and then to McEvedy, saw the latter score behind the posts. Giobs missed the kick at goal. Britain ••• 17 Ceast ... nil
From a scrum Green passed to Jackson, who rushed over and grounded the leather between the posts. Britain ... 22 Coast ... nil
From a line out the Coast forwards carried the hall into the Britishers territory, and Colvin, receiving a pass, dashed over. Bennett failed at the ki:k at goal. Britain ... ' 22 Coast ••• 3 From this out not further score resulted. The game was somewhat disappointing, the back play of the British team not being up to anticipations. The gate realised £450. The British team left at 7 o'clock overland for Nelson.
MATCH AGAINST MANAWATU. TO BE PLAYED AT PALMERSTON NORTH. WELLINGTON, June 17. The Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union has decided that the match between the Britishers and Manawatu shall be played at Palmerston North. At the same time the Committee thanks the Feilding people for their generous offer of a free ground and £SO towards expenses.
MAORIS v. METROPOLITAN TEAM.
WIN FOR VISITORS. JM TELEGRAPH—I'UESS ASSOCIATION. Received June 17, 9.15 p.m. 3YDNEY, June 17. There was an attendance at the match between the Maoris and the Metropolitan team of 5,000. The Maoris showed a decided advancement in playing the new game. A feature of the play was the improved attacking of the three-quarter?, Asher, Moko, Wanwihiu and Tuki. Among the forwards Pehana was the most prominent. The game was very even throughout. The local side were attacking strongly at the close. Messenger's goals included a remarkably fine effort from half-way. Asher, in evading a tackle, jumped clean over a player. Early in the game Hoh sustained a fractured jaw. The final scores were:—Maoris, 23; Metropolitan team, 20.

McDonald and Cas«y, who were selected to play for South Island in the inter-Taland football match, will be unable to play, and will not be available for the second test. Charters, chairman of the Wairarapa Rugby Union, has been selected to act as referee for the match between Britain and Marlborough and Nelson on Saturday. The following team will represent Masterton Seniors against Greytown Seniors, at the Showgrounds, on Saturday next: —Full-back, Thompson; three-quarters, flandley, Cowan, Winter; five-eighth, Daivill; halfback, Logan; wings, Cray and Daniell; forwards, Barry, Feilding, Lyall, C. DY TELEGRAPH—PER PRESS ASSOCIATION Received June 17, 8.30 a.m. LONDON, June 16. King Edward, as patron of the Marylebone Cricket Club, has, approved the badge selected by it to be worn on a dark blue cap by the English cricketers playing for England in test matches in Britain.
