WAIRARAPA SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING Tho annual meeting of the Wairarapa School Committees' Association was held yesterday morning. There were present Messrs K. Brown (Masterton) in the chair, E. Harper (Matahiwi), Ci L. Jackson (Kopuarangii), O. Isaacson (Hastwells), J. Welch (Opaki), E. J. Rose (Fernridge) and W. Jes;on (Mauriceville West). The annual report and balancesheet (which have already been published) were adopted. The District Health Officer (D: J. P. Frengley) wrotj stating that he considered the septic tank system was v.':t r.ppli:a"h f;r the Taueru a:id Maurice; Hie :chooU The subject had previously been debated, and the letter was formally "received" without further discussion, beyond the passing of a resolution that a letter be se.it to the Health Department asking that the cause of the delay in installing a septic tank at the Fernridge school be explained.

The Education Board wrote acknowledging receipt of the Association's letter requesting that the Government be asked to print school books and sell them at cost price. The same Board wrote stating that the Association's suggestion that writing pads might be used instead of slates has Lor.-, received, and the Board approved of the idea.

A notification was alsa read from the Board that, in accordance with the wishes of the Association, School Committees would be notified of the time of arrival of tv j \vly appointed teachers. On the motion of Mr Jesion. it was resolved to ask the Eoard to cause nomination papers for positions on the Board to be ported to Chairman of Committoes at least a month prior to the closing of nominations.

The Secretary was directed to sc id a circular to all committees in the Wairarapa .inviting them to an educational conference. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr R. Bro vii (Masterton, re-e'ected); Vice-Presidents, Messrs W. .lesson (Mauriceville W., re-sleeted) P. C. Jackson (Kopuaranga); Treasurer, Mr E. J. Rose (Fernridge, ru-elect^d); Secretary, Mr W. M. Easthope (Secretary Masterton School Committee, re-elected); General Committee, Messrs J. Hare (Rongokokako), E. Harper (Matahiwi). F. Court (Waihakeke), A. Percy (Te Ore Ore), U. Isaacson (Haatwells), J. Welch (Opaki), E. W. Pay ton (Mount Bruce), G. Garratt (Taueru). Greytown, Ngatuere, Eketahuna and Masterton are to ne asked to nominate) members to the committee.

It was resolved that the Association recommend committees to vote for Mr R. Brown as a member of the Wellington Education Board. Accounts amounting to £6 16s were passed for payment. A hearty vote of thanks to the retiring officers concluded the business.
