FOOTBALL. WAIRARAPA RUGBY UNION. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. The Red Star and Gretyown senior teams met on the Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon. There was a fair attendance of the public, and tha ground was in good order. After Red Star defeated Masterton on the previous Saturday it was expected that they would put up a good fight against Greytown, and the supporters of the local Club were not disappointed, for from the start Red Star made the game fast and open. Their forwards played with great dash and, notwithstanding the good defensive play of the visitors, repeatedly swept down the field, and several times came within an ace of scoring. When the spell was about half way through, a clever piece of play by McKenzie, who badly beat the opposing wing forward and backs, resulted in a score. Duggan converted the try. There was no further score in the spell. The second spell was keenly contested, the ball travelling /rum one end of the field to the other with great rapidity. The home team on several occasions indulged in passing rushed, but faulty passing spoilt a odore. Fine defensive play by Greytown prevented dangerous Scar forward rushes, lead by McKe.izie, McCarthy and Paruteru, readmit in a score. Inert' was no scorv miring the spell, and the game, of which the Stars had the best, resulted in a win for the home team by 5 points to nil. Mr P. Roydhouse gave every satisfaction as referee.

MASTERTON v. CARTERTON. The Mastarton Senior team journeyed to Carterton, on Saturday, and played the Carterton Seniors. The visitors were without the services of O'Leary, Minetfc.. Daniel!,. Cowan and Handley, and suffered defeat by 13 points to 3. In the first spell Carterton scored 8 points. In the second spell the home team a3ded 5 more points to their score, while C. Ross kicked a penalty goal for Masterton. Fairbrother, Thompson and Levick scored tries for Carterton. S. Mason and Cadwallader converted one each. The Masterton forwards played a fine game, and "screwed" the scrums in capital style. Having a weak back team they were unable to make the most of their opportunities. Mr A. B. Charters was referee.

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.

• RED STAR v. TE ORE ORE. A match was played on the Masterton Showgrounds on Saturday between the Red Star and '"e Ore Ore teams. Thi> match, which was confined mainly to the forwards, resulted in a win for Red Star by 6 points to nil. In the first spell Chamberlain scored a try for the winners, and in the second spell Williams kicked a splendid goal. Red Star had the best of the game, which was controlled by Mr S. Smallwood. DALEFIELD v. MARTINBuROUGH. Dalefield beat Martinborough at Dalefield on Saturday by 15 poinis to nil. GREYTOWN v. CARTERTON. At Greytown, on Saturday, the local juniors defeated Carterton juniors by 9 points to 6. THIRD-CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP. RED STAR 111. v. MASTERTON 111. The first round of the third-class fixtures was completed on Saturday, when the Red Star 111. and Masterton 111. met. The game resulted in a win for Red Star by 14 points (three tries, one converted and a penalty goal) to nil. Mr W. Harding controlled a difficult game in an efficient manner.

POSITION OF TEAMS. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. The second round of the senior fixtures of the Wairarapa Rugby Union was completed on Saturday laat. Carterton won all three games in the round, beating Red Star by 22 points to 6, Greytown by 12 points to nil, and Masterton by 13 points 3. Red Star won two out of tbe three matches, defeating Masterton by 10 points to 3 and Greytown by 5 points to nil, and losing to Carterton by 22 points to 6. Masterton won one match (against Gretyown by 3 points to nil) and lost two (Red Star 10 to 3 and Carterton 13 to 3). Greytown lost all three matches. THIRD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP. The first round of the third class champiundhip wus completed on Saturday. Red Star have won both their matches, beating Dalefield by 15 points to 3 and Masterton by 14

points to nil. Masterton have won one match and Dalefield have lost both their matches. The position of the teams are as follow:

BUSH UNION MATCHES. (By Telegraph —Special to Age). PAHIATUA, June 13. The senior flag matches were rebumed to-day. Nireaha met Pahiatua on the local Recreation Ground. Despite the rain last night, the ground was in good condition, and a really good willing "go" was witnessed. Within ten minutes of the kick off a splendid bit of passing enabled Morrisun to get over, scoring first blood for Pahiatua. The try was not converted. Prom this out the game was of a give and take nature. Nireaha had an unsuccessful shot at goal. The first spell ended in the hume team's favour by 3 points to nil. In the second f.pell Nireaha seemed like scoring, but Pahiauta saved by excellent back play. Shortly afterwards the game was transferred to Nireaha's territory, and Yule scored tha second try for Pahiatua, which was not converted. Shortly after R. Smith scored another try, the kick at goal failing. Nireaha made a determined effort to score, and after a scries of scrums a try was secured by A. Quinlan, which was converted. Give and take play then ensued until just on time, when R. Smith got across again for Pahiatua, but the try was not converced. This left Pahiatua winners by 12 points t0,5. konini met Mangatainoka on the latter's ground. The former were defeated by Bto 6. The game was a thoroughly good one, and fast and even from the jump. Konini drew first blood —a penalty kick by Gordon Smith. Mangatainoka followed by Haivey scoring a try, a beautiful goal being kicked by Demalmanche. In the second spell Konini was again the first to score from a penalty kicked by G. Smith. Some fast play followed up and down the field until Mangatainoka obtained a penalty—Cowan making a fine kick and scoring. The game ended Managtainoka 8, Konini 6. In the junior matches Pahiatua High School defeated Mangatainoka School by 35 to nil. Eketahuna juniors beat Konini juniors by li to nil. Mangatainoka juniors beat Hamua, at Hamua, by 8 to nil.
