TRAIN ACCIDENT AT GORE.
NARROW ESCAPE OF DRIVER AND FIREMAN. BY TEIiEGKAriI—rttKSS ASfcOCIATtON. GORE, June 12. The Clinton - Invercargill tiain wa3 standing at the platform at Gote his morning, when the Waimea train, which was late, w'as run on to a sicle li.se. Owing to the points in front of the station being open the engine from Waimea urn into the stationary train. Four trucks of fie Clinton train were smashed, and the engine damaged. The-side of one truck was d.iven iiti the smoke-box of tho engine. Two i ucks of the Waimea train and tho tender of the engine were derailed. Tho driver (Carter) and the fireman (G. W. Johnson) had a narrow eicape, but were not injured. The tr.in services W(!re not delayed greatly, the wrec lcage being cleared awjy early in the day.
