MANUFACTURE OF DIAMONDS.
THE CASE OP M. LEMOINE. Received June 10, 10.7 p.m. PARIS, June 10. Lemoinc presented the Magistrate at Bow Street with a miniature diamond. He made many excuses for not producing a 300 carat diamond, and requested a further postponement of the case. The Magistrate granted a postponement until June 17th, when the envelope alhged to contain the for • mula for manufacturing diamonds will be opened.
The French engineer Lernoine, who is charged with fraud in pretending to manufacture diamonds, was released in ApriJ on condition that he proved within two months that he is able to manufacture diamonds. Lernoine is charged with swindling Sir Julius Wernher of £64,000, by pretending to manufacture diamonds, and offerpd to demonstrate that his process was genuine if the court would liberate him on bail. An objection was raised on behalf of the prosecution, and Lemoine's formula was deposited in a London bank. One thing that told seriously against Lernoine was the evidence of a jeweller, to the effect that he had furnished Lemoino with fusible plugs for the crucibles used in the experiments, so that real diamonds could be concealed in them.
